Is Private Jet Charter Safe?
Safety is the most common question from first-time private flyers — and the good news is that business aviation has an excellent safety record, comparable to commercial aviation for jet-powered aircraft operated by professional charter companies.
AOC Certification: The Foundation of Safe Charter
Every legitimate private jet charter operator holds an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) issued by the national aviation authority (in Germany: Luftfahrt-Bundesamt). This certificate requires:
- Ongoing aircraft maintenance to EASA standards
- Regular crew training and simulator checks
- Operational procedures and safety management systems
- Insurance coverage for passengers and third parties
What Your Broker Checks
A reputable broker verifies the AOC of every operator before placing a booking. They also check operator safety ratings through databases such as ARGUS CHEQ, Wyvern and IS-BAO. Ask your broker which safety database they use.
Weather and Safety Decisions
Private jets follow the same meteorological rules as commercial airlines. If conditions are unsafe, the captain will delay or cancel — regardless of passenger preference. This is non-negotiable and a feature, not a drawback.
