Private Jet Airports in Germany: Which FBO to Choose
Germany has eleven airports with dedicated FBO (Fixed Base Operator) terminals for private aviation. Not all are equally well-equipped — and the choice of departure airport affects both price and experience significantly.
Munich (MUC) — Bavaria's Premier Private Jet Hub
DC Aviation at Munich Airport is Germany's most capable private aviation terminal, handling ultra long range jets up to BBJ size. Covered parking for up to 18 aircraft, full de-icing, customs with 24/7 availability, 5-star passenger lounge. Ground transport to city centre: 45 minutes. Closest alternative for city-centre departures: Augsburg (AGB) or Salzburg (SZG).
Frankfurt (FRA) — Volume, Not Intimacy
Frankfurt Rhein-Main has a dedicated FBO at the south terminal (Signature Flight Support). The airport's commercial traffic volume means tarmac delays are common even for private jets. Consider Frankfurt-Egelsbach (QEF) for regional jets — it is 20 minutes from Frankfurt city and entirely private aviation, with zero queue times.
Berlin (BER) — Post-BBI Transition
Since the closure of Tegel, Berlin private aviation has consolidated at BER (Schönefeld/Brandenburg). Jet Aviation operates the FBO. For smaller jets, Berlin-Schönefeld Süd (former cargo area) is being used increasingly by operators seeking faster tarmac access.
Hamburg (HAM)
Hamburg Airport's FBO is operated by AVIATOR — formerly Aviaplex. Good access to the Alstertal business district. Hamburg Finkenwerder (XFW) is used by some operators for corporate aviation; it is Airbus's test and delivery facility with FBO capability.
